If you know me pretty well, you probably know that I hate shopping. With a passion, usually. Our clothes get holes in them and then I go shopping. However, if you know me really well, you may also know that I harbor a secret love of shoes, such that I actually kind of like shopping for them. Not so much that I have a huge shoe collection or anything. But I do love cute shoes. And today, when I was at the MJM shoe outlet looking for some kind of waterproof hiking boots, I found these pseudo-Victorian beauties. Please note the size. This is what usually makes it a little more difficult for me to find shoes, especially at the outlet. But these were MY SIZE.
However, please also note how freakin' high the heel is. For me, that's unwearable. I barely have an excuse to wear dressy shoes as it is. So I settled for just trying it on and taking a picture and sniffling to myself because they were only $60 and fit perfectly. Apparently Victorian-looking boots (but with a handy zipper) are coming back into style (or were in style six months ago or whatever ends up in the shoe outlet), because they also had the low-top kind. Still with a horrendously high heel, though. I realize this would bring me from just over 5' 1" to, like, 5' 5", but appealing as that is, comfort is premium. As comfortable as these seemed trying them on, I'm not used to heels that high. I'd be in agony. Looking great, but in agony. I won't go there.
But, yeah, I did find the hiking boots. Timberland, black, nice, only $40. Blah blah blah. I want my Victorian boots!!

They remind me, unfortunately, of that commercial for using the blockout codes on your cable - you know, the one where Mistress Mandy is standing around the living room of a perfectly ordinary couple? Yeah. Mistress Mandy.
Hey! If they weren't so astronomically high, I'd wear them.
Mistress Mandy, indeed!
I hate wearing heels with a passion. Unfortunately, though, I think they look great.
If you have teenage daughters, you get to inherit their cast off shoes. You also get them borrowing your decent shoes to take the trash out in, but it tends to equal out.
This is why I love Zappos.com - I too cannot wear the high, high heels and on Zappos you can filter your results by heel size. That way, I never see the impossible shoes that I just know I can't buy because the heels are too high.

Practice, practice, practice!! Those have a stacked heel, so it's not as bad as it looks. I bet you could do it. Call the store! Put them on hold and then go pick them up! You don't want to regret it later. You would look so bad-ass in those boots. The fact that they were in your size is proof it was meant to be.
I have an amazing pair of Clarks boots with about a 1-inch heel that I got from Zappos. But I checked there, and they don't have anything similar with a lower heel...plus the SAME boot costs $200 on Zappos!! Chloe, you are the voice of temptation. If I ever actually WENT anywhere fancy more than once every few months, I might have bought them...urrrrggghh...
I also hate spending money on myself. I always feel guilty. There's no real reason for that except maybe too many years as a frugal college student. And now I'm a frugal (read: underpaid) freelancer...
Plus, I can't wear them to work, because I work at home...the occasional 2-3 times monthly business meetings aren't quite enough to justify it...Does it sound like I'm talking myself out of it? Because I'm trying.
