Am I Gonna Make It?

Well, at 30,600 or so words, I may not even make my 37K personal goal by the deadline tomorrow evening, unless I can churn out about 6,400 more tomorrow. It could happen. I think I will also give myself an extra week and see if I can't actually produce 50,000 in a month's time--who says I have to follow the specified start and end time? I won't get the nifty graphic, but I'll still have completed a huge amount.

Dude, there's an alternative to the struggle -- who knew?

Taken from the Children's Writing list on Yahoo Groups:

The problems I had with NaNoWriMo were the 50,000-word requirement, since the MG books I write are far less than that, and the month-long duration, since I don't want my family to totally forget who I am between now and December 1st.

There a shorter challenge this year called WriAShoStoWe, Write a Short Story Week, the goal of which is to write a 5,000-word story in five days between October 31 and November 4, which seems doable. And then there's NaDruWriNi, National Drunk Writing Night, which takes place on November 5th. Apparently you are allowed to use spell-check and to edit as you write, but you can't change any of it once you sober up. And I'm told it's best to keep a bucket handy.

But none are focused on children's books so I'd like to propose International Children's Book Fortnight: InChiBoFo. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a picture book, chapter book, middle grade or YA novel in the two week period between November 7 and November 20. This will give you November 6th to recover from NaDruWriNi hangovers. Registration is not necessary, but I've put together a few simple rules at my site.

Also, there is a participant graphic you can steal. Good luck!

Or, why not make up our own date!? Maybe for, like, February, when nothing on earth is happening!!!

This is awesome! We HAVE to do this next year. Except, I think it would still take me longer than a fortnight, judging from my current progress and my general long-windedness.
